Peppermint OS (Trixie base) Released

We are very happy to announce the release of Peppermint OS Flagship based on Debian trixie, the flagship Peppermint OS is a XFCE desktop that lets you choose the applications you need. This keeps your system efficient and uncluttered. It is 64-bit based on Debian (trixie), featuring the familiar Peppermint experience with only the essentials pre-installed. The ISO can be downloaded from here

Note: The team has not yet decided if we will continue with the 32 bit, Debian will keep the 32 bit packages, this means that we could still compile, 32bit ISOs knowing the packages will be there for use.

To see what has changed the BuildDate log is here

From the team we would like to thank you all for your continued support and contributions, and thank you! to the Peppermint OS community!

Is it possible to upgrade from PeppermintOS Bookworm-based to Trixie-based without fresh install?

  5. Emanuel

Peppermint is an awesome Distro. Can’t wait to update my version to the latest build.

    1. So is the Btrfs option available in Calamares now?
    2. Why does Distrowatch say that only ext4 and XFS are available with Journaling?

    1. grafiksinc

Yes we do include btrfs in the installer.,
As for Distrowatch, we can’t really explain for them you would need to content them.

What are the chances for a DEVUAN release ?
    10% – 50% – 70% – better ?
    Thanks

    1. grafiksinc

There will be a Devuan, just waiting for their new release first, then we can do your part.

Could you release a 32-bit version this time?

    With LibreOffice, VLC, and Chromium?

Your 32-bit versions are perfect for PCs with limited resources, and the 2038 bug isn’t coming anytime soon.

Thanks to the whole team, I really like your system.

I like the philosophy of clean system of Peppermint OS, however, WIFI didn’t connect and had to install LMDE 7 which works perfect in my old DELL Vostro.

Good evening, there’s a problem with your distribution that needs fixing: GRUB fails to install, regardless of whether it’s the 32-bit Bookworn or 64-bit Trixie version, with the same error message:

The bootloader could not be installed. The installation command grub-install-target=i386-pc -recheck-force /dev/sda returned error code 1.

I’ve tried installing with Ventoy and with Rufus, and with or without internet access, but I always get the same error on both ISOs.

    1. grafiksinc

When you see this grub-install error during Debian installation with Calamares, it’s not usually a problem with the installation file (ISO) itself. Instead, it happens because your computer’s system can boot in different ways either “UEFI” or “BIOS” and your disk needs to be set up just right for the chosen mode. Sometimes, essential parts like the special boot partition might be missing or not set correctly.

Also, the way you prepare your USB installer can change how the computer boots, which can cause this issue to show up sometimes but not others. To fix it, you need to check if your computer is booting in the right mode and make sure your disk partitions match that mode.

      Hope that helps

I think it’s coming from the ISO.

I tried both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and it does the same thing on two different computers.

Yet I’m leaving the installation on automatic so it can do it by itself.

This is happening on two PCs with BIOS settings but no UEFI.

What exactly do I need to do to stop this error?
