PeppermintOS Devuan Release (Excalibur)

We are happy to announce the release of our Devuan-based build of Peppermint (Excalibur).

This build matches the standard Debian-based Peppermint OS experience exactly, with the difference being the absence of systemd. Generally speaking, all regular Peppermint features are available, excluding only the specific applications that strictly rely on systemd init.

During installation, you will have the flexibility to choose your preferred init system: SysVinit, OpenRC, or runit.

Please check the build log for recent more detailed updates….. here

Huge thanks and props to the Devuan team and their community they are a wonderful group. Thank you for everything you do, and keep up the fantastic work!

We also want to extend a big thank you to our testers, whose invaluable feedback helped us identify and resolve several key bugs.

Finally, thank you so much to our community. None of this would be possible without you. Please continue to join us, collaborate, and share your feedback across our platforms!

    Hi,

Just to let you know, amd integrated radeon drivers fail to load so I cant boot to live environment to install. On the intel chipset, no wifi drivers are loaded on the 7th gen core i5 chipset. I have devuan 6 currently running on them just fine and did not encounter any of these issues. It seems the firmware is missing in your iso’s or failing to load.
    Thanks

Hmm maybe these are needed for those chipsets?

        Hey,

On the amdgpu, the init is returning a fatal error when trying to load resulting in plymouth not loading, the iwifi firmware is not loading on the intel chipset. I was running devuan and the drivers were loading fine so it would appear something was changed on the peppermint side. TBH I left devuan now because emerge is causing too many permissions issue with customization or even replacing slim with lightdm. I did install the previous itteration of pepdevuan but it has issues installing brave from the curl command which was weird stating that apt-get was not working. Bizarre stuff. Im over on artix. But my confusion with the iwifi is that it is loaded with devuan 6 and not with peppermintos.

We can get those packages in there as well as the wireless-regdb and wpasupplicant for the wireless…
We will add them test and update the ISOs – thanks

Yes wifi would be a good thing, got me stuck as well…

It’s supposed to be so you can upload your own personal hack drivers into it. it’s way too complicated when the drivers are already installed

Amazing work guys, will try this out today and report back, been waiting for a systemd free distro that is Debian base but also allows BTRFS during the install.

      Thank you so much

    Hi,
Unable to get past Live login screen without a password.
I needed amd firmware for screen res. so tried an install. The screen lock kicked in during install so I needed a password!
I left it for a long time then rebooted and re-grubbed to get a working system.

Is there a way to open boot menu on a live distro during boot? To enter or edit boot parameters.

Also, no Fully Loaded Edition for begginers? I mean that could get Peppermint higher on Distro ranking too.

    1. grafiksinc

Yes, there are still some work being done for the loaded… the Flagship is the base for them. Try to get these smoothed out while the loaded in being worked on
I agree with you… on ranking… but we are working on it.

We will email you the steps its bit long for ta comment.

      Thanks for being here!
